Updated COVID-19 Entry Rules (as of April 29, 2023)

Great news!

As of April 29, 2023 at midnight, there is no longer a requirement to present a vaccination certificate or a negative PCR test when entering Japan.

Please note – for a smoother entry process and to avoid filling out forms at the airport, it is recommended to register on the Visit Japan Website and complete the entry forms in advance.

If you’re wondering - even though vaccination proof is no longer required, it is still common to wear masks in indoor spaces across Japan.

Previous COVID-19 Rules (before April 29, 2023)

  • Travelers were required to provide official proof of at least 3 vaccine doses.

  • If unvaccinated or with fewer than 3 doses, a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure was required.

Recovery certificates were not accepted.

Children under 18 were exempt if their parents had received at least 3 vaccine doses.

It is recommended to register on the Visit Japan Website and complete the entry forms in advance.
