Nikko
Nikkō (日光, Nikkō) is a town located at the entrance to Nikkō National Park. One of the main reasons for the area’s popularity is Toshogu Shrine, considered the most elaborately decorated shrine in Japan. Nikkō National Park offers visitors picturesque scenery, including lakes, waterfalls, hot springs, hiking trails - and on rare occasions, even bears 🙂
Nikkō, and especially Lake Chūzenji, are well known for their stunning autumn colors (kōyō). The foliage typically reaches its peak around the lake from mid-October through the first half of November.
