The Hakone Open-Air Museum is one of the most fun and easy-to-enjoy museums in Japan.
It’s set outdoors, with large sculptures spread across wide green spaces, so you can walk around at your own pace and just take it in. Some pieces you can actually walk through or interact with, which makes it feel less like a typical museum and more like an open playground for art.
There are also indoor galleries, including a Picasso Pavilion, but honestly the highlight is just being outside, moving between art and nature. It’s a great stop even if you’re not big on museums.
