Wikipedia

Source:

Nigatsu-do (二月堂) is one of the important halls within Todai-ji Temple.

The hall survived Japan’s civil wars but was eventually destroyed by fire in 1667 and rebuilt about two years later. It is considered a national treasure and houses two statues of Kannon (the Buddhist goddess of mercy), one large and one small. These statues are regarded as “hidden Buddhas,” meaning they are not displayed to the public.
