(長町) is a historic samurai district located at the foot of (the former) Kanazawa Castle. During the Edo period, it served as a residential area for samurai and their families.
Why visit? The entire area is rich in traditional atmosphere—historic houses, earthen walls, narrow lanes, and small water canals.
Here are a few nice spots to explore in the area:
Nomura-ke
A restored samurai residence with a small, beautifully maintained garden, once home to the Nomura family, one of the city’s high-ranking samurai families. Inside, you’ll find interesting artifacts such as weapons and items from the samurai era.

Shinise Kinenkan
A restored Edo-period pharmacy turned small museum, offering a glimpse into the life of the merchant class, which flourished as the samurai class declined.

Maeda Tosanokami-ke Shiryokan
