Kobe, and especially the Nada district, is one of Japan’s most important sake-producing regions.
The area became famous for its sake thanks to a few key factors: high-quality rice, clean water from nearby mountains, and a climate that’s ideal for brewing. Over time, this turned Nada into a major center of sake production in Japan.
Today, you can visit several breweries in the area. Some function as small museums where you can learn about the brewing process and history, but the main highlight is the breweries themselves, where you can actually taste different types of sake.
You can walk between a few spots, learn a bit along the way, and try a variety of flavors, from light and smooth to richer styles. It’s a relaxed experience and a nice change from the usual sightseeing.
