Hama Rikyu (浜離宮) are beautiful gardens located by Tokyo Bay. The gardens feature seawater ponds whose levels rise and fall with the tides. You’ll also find a teahouse on a small island where you can relax and enjoy the view.
What makes these gardens unique is the striking contrast between their traditional design and the modern skyscrapers that surround them.
Originally, the site was part of a feudal lord’s residence and was mainly used for duck hunting. Later, it became a garden belonging to the Imperial Household, before eventually opening to the public in its current form.
