Hakone Shrine was founded in the 8th century and has long been considered a sacred place protecting travelers in the region.
It sits quietly among tall cedar trees along the shores of Lake Ashi, giving it a calm, almost hidden feeling. The most famous spot here is the red torii gate standing in the water, one of those classic Hakone views you’ve probably seen before.
It’s a nice stop to slow down a bit, walk through the forest path, take a few photos by the lake, and soak in the atmosphere.
